Our Doctors

With internationally recognised expertise in clinical management and research, our cardiologists are leaders in the field of cardiology. They are active members of national and international committees in clinical cardiology, and reviewers for a number of international scientific journals and national funding bodies.

In Western Australia, our cardiologists have led the way. In 1980, the interventional cardiologists in this unit introduced coronary angioplasty to Western Australia. They have been performing acute myocardial infarction angioplasty since the mid 1980s. The cardiac electrophysiology team undertook the very first radiofrequency catheter ablation in Australia and has extensive experience in device therapy (pacemakers, ICDs and CRT) and all types of arrhythmia ablation. In 1994, our heart failure cardiologists established the WA Advanced Heart Failure & Cardiac Transplant Service. This is the only such service in the state delivering heart transplantation, mechanical heart support, multi-disciplinary heart failure and cardiomyopathy management. In 2009, our cardiologists were involved in the first percutaneous (femoral and apical) heart valve replacement procedures. In 2010, one of our team members was the first West Australian cardiologist to implant the 'Watchman’ LA appendage closure device and the first to insert a MRI safe pacemaker device.
