Perth Cardio’s group of Cardiologists are leaders in sub-specialised cardiology fields such as Cardiac Imaging, Electrophysiology, Advanced Heart Failure, Structural Heart and Valvular Implantations, Angioplasty and other Interventional Procedures. Having this depth of experience and knowledge on our team allows us to deliver Western Australia’s leading cardiology services.


To provide the best possible level of service and communication for the Region
  • Two cardiologists will alternate visits ensuring continuity of care
  • We work with tertiary hospitals to maintain strong relationships
  • An urgent access support line will be available for doctors to speak directly with a consultant for advice or a second opinion regarding ECG’s
  • Cardiac testing reports will be supplied electronically within two business days of the test being performed
  • Telehealth appointments will be made available for suitable patients, minimising waiting times across the service
  • A central point of contact will be provided for convenient booking, referral and waitlist queries
  • There will be no out of pocket fees for private inpatients in Perth or the Kimberley thanks to our no gap provider status
  • We’re committed to educating and upskilling Kimberley doctors and health workers in cardiology areas.

Cardiologists that service the Kimberley Region include Dr Nik Stoyanov and Dr Jamie Rankin

Jamie RankinMB BS (UWA) FRACP FCSANZ

Dr Jamie Rankin is an expert in general cardiology, echocardiography, structural heart intervention and acute coronary syndromes. His sub-specialty is interventional cardiology and his key interests include clinical epidemiology, structural heart intervention and acute coronary syndromes, with an ongoing dedication to clinical research at both a national and international level. He also has a strong interest in aboriginal health, and regularly travels to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands to provide visiting cardiology services.

Jamie graduated medicine from the University of Western Australia. He trained in cardiology at Royal Perth Hospital. He then completed his Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Vancouver General Hospital, Canada.

Dr Rankin has held the position of Head of Cardiology at Fiona Stanley Hospital since it opened in 2014, having previously held the roles of Head of Cardiology and Director of Clinical Trials in Cardiology at Royal Perth Hospital. His commitment to excellence in our health system sees him consulting on a number of government advisory groups.

He currently consults from our Murdoch, Nedlands and Rockingham rooms.

Nik StoyanovMBBS (Hons) FRACP

Dr Nik Stoyanov is a Cardiologist with subspecialty training in Electrophysiology, Pacing and Heart Failure.

Nik is a local graduate from UWA, and has completed Cardiology training at Royal Perth Hospital, including 12 months at the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Unit. Subsequently, he spent a further 3 years training in EP and Pacing at RPH and at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Ontario, Canada.

Dr Stoyanov is a consultant cardiologist practicing in public (Royal Perth Hospital and Fiona Stanley Hospital) and private (St John of God Murdoch). Aside from General Cardiology, his particular areas of interest include management of all cardiac arrhythmias, implantation and follow-up of pacemakers and defibrillators, and the management of inherited cardiac conditions.

He currently consults from our Murdoch and Midland rooms.

Matthew Erickson MB BS (UWA) FRACP

Dr Matthew Erickson is an expert in general cardiology, heart failure management, assessment and management of chest pain and coronary angiography and stenting. He has dual sub-specialties in interventional cardiology and echocardiography, with a particular interest in the assessment of ischaemia, management of patients with heart failure, echocardiographic assessment of the heart (including stress and transoesophageal echocardiography) and coronary revascularisation. He is an expert in the radial artery approach for coronary angiography and angioplasty, to improve patient outcomes and comfort.

Matthew graduated medicine from the University of Western Australia. He completed his physician and general cardiology training at Royal Perth Hospital. He completed a Fellowship in Echocardiology at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne. He also completed Fellowships in Interventional Cardiology at both Royal Perth Hospital and Hôpital Haut-Lévêque, Bordeaux, France.

Dr Erickson is a Consultant Cardiologist at St John of God Murdoch and Hollywood Private Hospital, as well as Fiona Stanley and Royal Perth Hospital. He is the clinical lead in Echocardiology at Fiona Stanley.

He has previously consulted in the WA Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant service and held a teaching position as an Associate Professor with the University of Western Australia’s School of Medicine. He also has a strong interest in aboriginal health, and regularly travels to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands to provide visiting cardiology services. He currently consults from our Murdoch and Nedlands rooms, and throughout the Kimberley Region.
