Strange Things that wind up in our landfill. These are items that we may not always know how to dispose of correctly, and landfill may not seem like the right option, but what IS the right option?

There’s now a multitude of solutions for almost any kind of waste we create in the home or workplace. Many items that are unwanted but not at their “end of life” (aka item or product can no longer function in the way it was intended) can either be gifted to friends or family, or try using your local Buy Nothing Facebook group to gift to a neighbour (search “Buy Nothing” and your suburb to find your local), donate to an op shop, or maybe bushfire appeal.

Many of the items listed below not only have valuable parts that can be salvaged to create something else (computer parts contain a lot of gold!), they may also be hazardous (aerosol cans can explode in bins) or leach harmful chemicals into the groundwater supply (batteries, globes, paint etc).

E-waste: Anything that has a power cord. For example: kettles, toasters, laptops, printers, broken wires/cables, phone chargers, hard drives, CD/DVDs, mice, keyboards, monitors, TVs, hair dryers, microwaves etc.
